Innovation is a 140 person Mass General Brigham business development unit responsible for the worldwide commercial application of the breakthroughs and unique capabilities of the System’s 80,000 employees and faculty.  It drives revenue generation and patient benefit through industry collaborations, investing, company creation, licensing, and innovation management for the System’s Harvard Medical School appointed faculty and hospitals including its core Harvard affiliates -- Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear and McLean Hospital.

Identifies, shapes and executes medically related commercial transactions. Engages industry executives, investors, clinical leaders, and MGB innovators.  Identifies, organizes, characterizes, markets and licenses technological expertise, research information, intellectual property and other industrially relevant capabilities. Must have directly applicable experience and appropriate graduate education.


As a key member of the Innovation team, the Alliance and Licensing Manager will be responsible for driving existing collaborations and focusing efforts to establish strong relationships with commercial partners: 

• Responsible for and a point of contact for at least one strategic alliance, and one or more strategic programs with industry partners
• Prioritize tasks, and organize and manage multiple projects while maintaining an understanding of main objectives on each program
• Communicate and partner directly with internal investigators, cross-functional teams and MGB departments in driving the alliance forward
• Jointly plan, document and run joint program and/or steering committee meetings for the alliance; manage all reporting requirements
• Develop and manage multi-institutional, multi-investigator collaboration agreements with commercial partners or co-development deals to advance common interests relating to focus and efforts of research at Mass General Brigham;
• Directly engage industry executives, investors and Mass General Brigham innovators to jointly shape commercial offerings based on Mass General Brigham discoveries, innovations, research outcomes and other high value capabilities. 
• Assesses the commercial potential, translational readiness and value of inventions and develops commercialization approach including identifying and engaging potential licensees and collaborators.
• Develops strategy to optimize commercial impact, economic returns and cost savings of key and emerging Mass General Brigham discoveries, innovations and other technological capabilities. 
• Works as part of a multidisciplinary team assembled to give special emphasis to areas of institutional excellence and high market potential.
• Licenses technological expertise, research information, intellectual property, patents, and software to industry and other partners.
• Contributes to team performance goals by achieving personal objectives including number of licenses, revenues, and related agreements.


• Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, life sciences or healthcare economics.
• PhD with a minimum of 1 year of directly relevant business development, licensing, IP management, technology commercialization or alliance management experience OR advanced degree in business, or sciences with 2-3 years of directly relevant business development, licensing, IP management, technology commercialization or alliance management experience.
• Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to set priorities effectively and efficiently, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Strong communication and project management skills to effectively support alliance goals, operations and deliverables. 
• Candidate is curious, collaborative and deeply values exposure to and learning about new technology, concepts, people and organizations.  
• Must be capable of directly managing, shaping and transacting high value, technology-based opportunities. 
• Must be able to represent Mass General Brigham and gain the confidence, trust and respect of clinicians, scientists, investors, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and administrators; able to diagnose and resolve complex inter-organizational, interpersonal, technological issues and contractual issues.
• Exceptional oral, written, communication and analytical skills.  Proficiency in power point and excel required.
